"He is terrorist, state criminal and traitor," - says Aram Sargsian. Will Robert Kocharian politically survive? /* Baku, June 11, Sahil */ As Robert Kocharian swindles all Armenian people with his foreign trips to South America and Belarus, political oppositions keeps on moving against the current Armenian President. Last two weeks, political parties and supporters had a great zeal to launch an impeachment process against Kocharian. This political movement headed by Aram Sargsian, brother of bulleted Vazgen Sargsian, former Prime Minister is resolute to oblige Kocharian to step down. Recent clashes between the impeachment rallies and pro-presidential powers resulted in a loyal attitude of Armen Khachaturyan, speaker of Parliament saying "no legal issues for bringing that issue into Parliamentary agenda." Furious opposition leaders in Parliament invaded the tribune and said not to step out until impeachment is brought to discussion. Khachaturyan was quick to postpone the three days session. Perhaps, Aram Sargsian claims that there is real legal indictment of Kocharian into parliamentary killings of 1999. According him, 20 MPs agreed to vote for the impeachment of Kocharian. Leader of the Unity Bloc Galust Sahakian is expected to say "yes" for vacating the presidential post. Chairman of the National Unity Party, Artashes Gegamian, Robert Kocharian's policy is nothing other than a state crime. Police and law enforcement bodies encircled the building of National Parliament to save MPs from intimidating actions. Perhaps Kocharian did not give any real assessment of political crisis in Armenia. He preferred to speak again about Nagorno Karabakh in his interview to "The Sovetskaya Belarus" newspaper. He is very contradictory in the resolution of Karabakh problem. As he is seen to say that "we are finalizing the issue of Karabakh resolution". On other hand, he repeats again about either "independence" for Karabakh or its "attachment" to Armenia.*
It is better off in Azerbaijan, than in Georgia or Armenia /* Baku, June 11, Sahil */ European Union issued recently the Statistical Yearbook on the South Caucasus - 2002. As it can be seen from those figures the life is better in Azerbaijan, than in Georgia and Armenia. Mr. Foris Nanopoulos, director of Eurostat says that the considerable stabilization, the speedy economic and social changes are taking place in those countries. According to that document, the population of Armenia at the end of 2001 was 3800.0 thousand, Georgia - 4945.0 and Azerbaijan - 8141.4. But UN Population Fund tried to get figures from all three countries and they failed to agree with the indicators on Armenia. Armenian opposition says that today's population is only 1.8 million after the mass emigration from the country. Armenian official authorities are playing with numbers indicating even a growth in population. The best economic indicators are to Azerbaijan which is marked with great economic development and better social life for population.*
